Personal commission for a navy iron-on patch design as a farewell gift to squad members. The ferocious lion represents their fleet, which fires missiles and turrets.

About the project

I was commissioned to illustrate a navy iron-on patch design as a farewell gift. The patch was to be regal and stately, representing the pride of the fleet. The patch is designed in a symmetrical form to represent order. The background was also to be a regal navy blue or jungle green.

The form of the lion was revised to have an open mouth, suggesting a ferocious roar. The silhouette of the turrets were also revised to appear more accurate to the turrets in real life.

The final artwork was then vectorised into two forms: a rectangular patch and an off-cut patch:
